Today In History – Ten years ago today, Africa and the world witnessed the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), which formally ended Africa’s longest civil between north and south Sudan, and paved the way for the creation of world’s newest nation, South Sudan, in July 2011.
On that momentous day in January 2005, a sea of marginalized Sudanese poured into Nyayo Stadium in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi to witness the occasion and to share their happiness with the world. Their expressions were captured in the forms of cultural celebrations, from traditional dances to songs about people’s liberation.
A lot has happened since then. So on this day, as we mark the historic 10th Anniversary of the peace treaty that created the world’s newest country, The New Sudan Vision is providing all readers, our columnists and guest writers an opportunity to share their thoughts, whether as in-depth opinion analyses, essays or short commentaries, by writing to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. We will be publishing those articles throughout January for our Commemorative Edition of the CPA/Public Discourse in South Sudan.
