GOSS and World Bank ink a 30 million dollar agreement for safe water project in Southern Sudan

The Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS) and the World Bank have signed a 30 million dollar grant for the provision of safe drinking water and sanitation services in Southern Sudan.

The money will be used to construct water reservwater
oir, public latrines and to drill new boreholes.

Lack of safe drinking water is one of the leading causes of diseases, such as cholera, in Southern Sudan.

The money will also be used to conduct assessments and feasibility studies to determine a suitable water sanitation in Aweil, Bentiu, Bor, Kwajok, Rumbek,Torit and Yambio.

 The grant comes from the Multi-Donor Trust Fund, a Southern Sudan post war reconstruction fund which was established by the international community following the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005. The funds are administered by the world on behalf of the donor countries.

David Deng Athorbei, GOSS Finance and Economic Planning Minister signed on behalf of Southern Sudan while Laurence Clarke, Manager of the World Bank in Southern Sudan, signed on behalf of the World Bank.
