Kiir inaugurates national intelligence and security complex in South Sudan

June 21, 2008 (Juba NSV) - On Saturday 21st June in the south Sudan's capital city, Juba, Salva Kiir, Sudan's First Vice President inaugurated National Intelligence and Security building in Juba. Present at the occasion were high level dignitaries that included Ali Osman Taha, Sudan's Second Vice President, General Salah Abdallah "Ghosh" and GoSS ministers, SPLA officers and civilians.
Officially the complex is south Sudan's headquarters of intelligence and security branch. During the opening of the huge building in Juba, Salva Kiir stressed the importance of keeping security of the country. "The role of intelligence is to keep peace and protect the state." said Kiir. On the other hand, Ali Osman Taha expressed the work of security in the state as; "good operation of political system requires good intelligence work that will safeguard the unity of the country."
Sudan's interim constitution gives opportunity for south Sudan to have its intelligence unit that will facilitate smooth running of government apparatus. General Salah Abdallah "Ghosh" who spoke during the inauguration session asked all Sudanese to cooperate with the state to guarantee all rights. "The security will protect the constitution as stated in the CPA," he said.
Currently, there are few South Sudanese in the ranks of Sudan Security. They were absorbed from SPLA after 2005; however, the percentage and method of recruiting south Sudanese into intelligence work remains obscure to the members of the public. Bitter memories still exist between the two sides who were foes for more than 21 years. The opening of intelligence office in Juba is a great boost for south Sudan's scattered security information.
