mugabeandmorganFebruary 1, 2009 (NSV) - The leader of the Zimbabwean opposition Morgan Tsvangirai announced Friday it would be joining a coalition government with President Mugabe.

"We are unequivocal, we will go into this government," said Tsvangirai. "The SADC has decided and we are bound by that decision."

After a year since Former President of South Afica Thabo Mbeki brought the two sides together, the formation of coalition government has been deadlocked over key ministries.

South African Foreign Ministry welcomed the move by the MDC.

"The formation of the inclusive government in Zimbabwe will help lay the foundation for the people of Zimbabwe to begin to address current challenges facing their country," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The 15-nation Southern African Development Community, SADC, in a meeting this week voted for the foes to form unity government in February.
