(Vancouver)-
jok_9There is coming a day
When the Sun shall refuse
To set over Khartoum,
The confluence of the two Niles
And over Juba
A gently sloping landscape,
Sandwiched between the Mountains
Jebel Lado and Jebel Kujur

The Sun shall refuse to set
Until the people of Southern Sudan and Abyei
Have cast their last Referendum ballots

Yes, there is one Day
Only one Day
When the Southern Sudanese
And the people of Abyei
Will stand vigilant and together
Ready to defend the future
Until the last ballot is counted
Confirming the arrival of a New Nation
January 9th, 2011

There is coming a Day,
Only one Day
When the bright-starred flag
Shall be raised
And, Kiir Mayardit,
The man in a cowboy hat,
Shall stand and salute
In solemn silence,
The Southern Sudan flag
Taking up its rightful place
Among the flags of nations
January 9th, 2011

There is coming a Day,
Only one Day
When people of Southern Sudan and Abyei
Will sing a national anthem
With passion
Enough to awaken
The sleeping elephant
And the ants alike
January 9th, 2011

On this Day,
This one Day
The world shall hold
The Southern Sudanese
In great respect;
A people who witnessed
50 years of bloodshed
But remain steadfast believers
Of love and peace
Invoking affection and fellowship
In their trails

On this Day,
This one Day
The world shall watch:
An impeccable out-pour
Of talent;
A potential economy
Turning kinetic and dynamic
January 9th, 2011

On this Day
The child will be a child again
Free of fear and political involvement
Running around in parks
Curious about computers
And the birds of flight
Shall bless the land
With their songs

In this New Nation
It shall be said, “All are welcome”
And it shall indeed be felt
That all are welcome
The entrepreneurs
And the diverse professions
Shall become
The new wheels
The liberators
The veterans of
Development and prosperity.
